Parents are realing after a terrifying shooting goes down on an elementary school campus in Loves Park.
It happened at Maple Elementary School around 4:15 Sunday afternoon. Authorities say two men engaged in a gun fight right on the playground area.
At least 12 shots were fired near the playground full of parents and kids. There was even a baseball game in progress.
Amazingly, no one was injured, but one man is in custody. Twenty-four year old Shaun Russel is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a firearm by a felon and no valid firearm owner's id.
Love's Park Police have also issued an arrest warrant for the other man they believe was involved in the shooting, 19-year-old Joshua Bardsley. He's described as a white male, with black hair and a goatee.
Neighbors and parents say this isn't the first time they've seen trouble at the school.
"There's been a lot of stuff going on up at the school, we see cars parked up there all the time, I lot of older people hanging out we've had our suspicions for a long time about what kind of things go on up there. We can't even let the kids go up and play at the playground," says Maple School neighbor and parent, Tabitha West.
Love's Park police say this shooting will make the school more of a priority to clean up. Please call Loves Park police at (815) 654-5015 if you have any information on Joshua Bardsley's whereabouts.
