It was a horrifying discovery inside this car Friday night. David Krause returned home from work to find his 65-year-old wife Lynn murdered and her body dumped inside the trunk of her car. Neighbors and nearby diner employees say they're shocked this would happen in Roscoe.

"She was a nice lady she came in usually on Fridays with her husband and sometimes her son and her grandson had breakfast very pleasant to talk to," says Sheri Rosinski who knows the Krause family.

It wasn't long before police arrested the couple's son, 31-year-old Steven Krause on first degree murder charges.

"The investigation developed the son as a suspect right off the bat we were able to locate him quickly and he was taken into custody," says Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro.

Some say Krause appeared mentally fit and were surprised to learn he's a suspect in such a gruesome crime.

"He seemed very nice I think he was a recent single father just went through a divorce had his son on the weekends," Rosinski says.

Krause is being held in the Winnebago County Jail on 5-hundred thousand dollars bond.

Police won't say what kind of weapon was used in the homicide. An autopsy is expected to be performed on Monday.
