One plus for those trying to get a position in the county, with a new jail facility the sheriff's department will have to hire 120 officers over the next 3 years. This week both Rockford Fire department and Rockford Police department also started accepting applications.
Every two years the Rockford Fire department starts the hiring process. In 2000 only 606 people applied. In 2002 there was 855 people who filled out applications. Already the department is anticipating a large turnout this time around.
It's a four-step process to be a part of Rockford's Police and Fire department. First the application and then there’s a physical test. Next, applicants must take a personality assessment and then an interview with the Police and Fire commission.
Those who make the cut will be a part of the qualified candidate pool for 2 years.
Here are the dates that various law enforcement agencies will be accepting applications.
The Rockford Fire department will be accepting applications starting May 3, 2004 and ending June 4, 2004. Applications can be picked up at the City of Rockford Fire department between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The Rockford Police department started taking applications on April 26, 2004 and will continue until May 21, 2004. Applicants must be between the ages of 21 and 34. You can also apply online at www.ci.rockford.il.us.
