National Adoption Day
As we reflect on what we're thankful for this year, dozens of stateline couples are looking at Thanksgiving in a completely different light.

That's because this holiday, they'll be parents. 28 sets of moms and dads finalized their adoptions today. Chief Judge Janet Holmgren of the 17th Circuit Court put the finishing touches on their paperwork. It's part of National Adoption Day. Up until this point, most of the kids adopted were in foster care. So a lot of parents we talked to say they feel blessed to welcome them into loving new homes.
"It was very important for us to do this. just so that to create some stability for her as well as all of us. So there are no other questions, she's ours now," says Nathan Schoensiegel.
Winnebago County has celebrated National Adoption Day during the last six years. During this time, 130 kids were placed with local families.
