SIU Tuition Increase

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- New students at Southern Illinois University's campuses in Edwardsville and Carbondale will be paying about one-thousand dollars more this fall.

The university's Board of Trustees signed off on the increases yesterday.

New full-time students at the university's flagship Carbondale campus will pay 540 dollars more a year in tuition. That's a nine-point-three increase over last year -- for a total of 63-hundred-and-48 dollars a year.

At the Edwardsville campus, new full-time students will pay an extra 470 dollars in tuition, up nine-point-nine percent over last year -- for a total of 52-hundred-and-27 dollars a year.

Fees will rise about 550 dollars at the Carbondale school and 624 dollars at the Edwardsville campus.
