The Mark Barmore shooting riled up more discussion today during the second day of a community training event. A group of local leaders and concerned citizens met to talk about the issues raised by the incident.

Mark Barmore was shot and killed in a church daycare by two Rockford police officers. The event brought many community wide concerns to the surface.
The group that's met over the past two days is trying to create an action plan that involves all members of the community working together. They want to flush out and deal with these issues instead of just reacting to them.

David Jehnsen lead the group training. As the chairman of the Institute for Human Rights and Responsibilities he said, "You can react to a crisis and you can throw stones and demonize certain leaders and so on so forth, but that doesn't solve any problems. What's necessary is for leadership to step forward in a community, diverse leadership, and say we're going to help address this."

Even though the event has ended the group is already talking about additional meetings and planning sessions.

Riots In Are Streets, Now Riots In Are High School... What Is Happing To Our Our Town?

Agree with Bob...No matter the outcome, this is sensitive issue. If they release that the officers were justified or not justified and give the family monetary compensation, the other non-police supporters will riot and loot regardless. I know the officers involved will have to watch their back either way... which is a sad steamy pile. I'm sure the people that actually pay taxes have spent over 300k on this already.

The reason why it is taking so long is becasue the officer were justified in shooting him. Now the dept of Justice is involved to keep a civil uprising from happening. Now the Dept. of Justice can help the RPD and keep the tension down. Does anyone remember the LA Riots. Hmm
