An SBC company offers cities tax payments.
The company is Ameritech Advanced Data Services of Illinois, which is owned by SBC Communications.
SBC officials wouldn't say how many towns have received settlement offers or how much the company owes overall, but many city officials say they've received thousands of dollars.
For example, Naperville's finance director says his city has been offered about $87,000. Schaumburg's village manager says they're looking at a $105,000 offer, and Rockford, Springfield and Peoria have all agreed to settlements.
Rockford will get $188,000. Several city officials say they hadn't missed the tax money because they didn't know Ameritech Advanced had customers in their municipalities.
