The authority's board of directors is expected to vote next week on whether to join the EZ-Pass Interagency Group.
The move could cost the authority up to $2 million initially. But officials say membership would make the tollway eligible for discounted transponders, and that could save as much as $1.2 million in the next three years alone.
A vote on the issue could have a significant impact on cross-country truckers passing through Illinois. Toll authority spokeswoman Kathleen Cantillon says about 30,000 truckers with EZ-Pass tags use Illinois toll roads daily.
