The cuts announced Tuesday represent two percent of the company's fast-shrinking work force. The company says the job cuts would start immediately and occur over the next two months.
Of those laid off, 185 are catalog workers while 70 are from the corporate division. All are based either at company headquarters in Downers Grove or at a data center in the nearby western Chicago suburb of Westmont.
Spiegel's interim CEO says the decision to cut jobs was difficult but will make the catalog business smaller and easier to sell.
