EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) -- A long-time collector of rare baseball cards is selling off his treasures this month.
Lionel Carter of Evanston has been collecting cards for the last 72 years. He's now got 50-thousand of them.
Carter's impressive collection has several in near-mint condition including a 1920 Ty Cobb, Mickey Mantle's 1951 rookie card and a 1910 Eddie Plank.
The cards are valued at up to two (M) million dollars. They date from the 1880s to the 1980s.
The 89-year-old retired banker says he doesn't really have a favorite. He has enjoyed perfecting his collection and is now ready to make sure they have a good home.
The cards will be up for auction later this month at Mastro Auctions in Burr Ridge.
