Ogle County Sheriff Cuts
A Stateline Sheriff is hoping for a settlement that will reduce major budget cuts for his department.

Ogle County Sheriff Greg Beitel says they're facing $1 million in cuts as the county works to offset a budget short-fall.
Beitel says that would mean laying off 25 sheriff employees, or about a third of his staff. He's concerned about fewer deputies on the roads and corrections officers in the jail.
He says a lower jail staff could push the U-S Marshal's office to withdraw federal inmates there. And that would mean a loss of almost a million dollars a year in revenue.
"I still think that everybody needs to look at this and realize what the consequences are and try and find some middle ground," Sheriff Beitel said.
Budget talks resume Friday afternoon between the sheriff and the county board finance committee. The budget deadline is November 30th.
