With prices reaching record highs, gas theft is on the rise.
On Saturday, the Road Ranger on South Main had gas stolen. Rockford police say it happens about seven times a day. Retailers say gas thefts have increased by as much as 300 percent. Culprits tend to park at the pump farthest from the cashier.
The hose is left on the ground, so station employees don't know the car is finished filling up. Video cameras at service stations often have a hard time getting the right angle to record a license plate.
