O'Hare Expansion Plans Get Off the Ground

The O’Hare expansion bill gets the go ahead after a two thirds majority vote late this afternoon.

After more than two years of controversy, the O’Hare expansion bill is now on its way to the senate floor.

The bill passed 343-87 in the House after being voted down only a week ago.

In a phone interview with 23 News Congressman Don Manzullo says the Greater Rockford Airport is in the driver’s seat to restore passenger service. But, it will take more than a congressional mention for planes to land in Rockford.

The bill will need approval by the U.S. Senate and the president and the Greater Rockford Airport will have to market itself as a viable reliever airport during O’Hare’s expansion.

On the house floor, one thing is clear, air traffic will continue to grow at O’Hare, and sooner or later a regional airport, like Rockford or Peotone, will be needed.
