Mississippi Train Derailment Kills Chicago Woman

The husband of a Chicago woman who was killed in a Mississippi train derailment says his wife was a religious person who was returning from a family funeral in New Orleans.

Authorities say 68-year-old Clara Downs died Tuesday night when the Amtrak passenger train jumped its tracks in a swampy area near Flora, Mississippi. Emergency officials say about 65 others were injured in the crash.

Willie Downs says he and his wife were high school sweethearts who had been married for more than 49 years. He says he'd planned to pick her up at the Amtrak station in Chicago Tuesday morning. Instead, he's now planning to go down to get her body and make funeral arrangements.

Lee Stokes of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency says the derailment is believed to be an accident, but he says the FBI has sent agents to the scene.
