It's "D day” for staff in the Rockford school district. The school board has to approve a list of the reductions in force Tuesday night.
The Human Resource Department looked at the district's entire teaching staff. From that, 408 certified teachers will receive a pink slip. Forty-eight certified and non-certified administrators are also on the list.
That makes for a grand total of 456 layoffs. To give this number a little perspective, the Rockford school district has 1,900 certified staff on payroll.
Tuesday night the board is expected to approve this list and they have to as certified staff has to be notified by March 31. The district is waiting to find out about a physical education waiver from that state could reduce cuts. If not, school will have to modify electives.
