President Bush says the economy is strong and corporate profits are improving.
Investors weren't swayed, however. They sold more stocks on Wall Street Monday. The Dow ended the day off more than 230 points. The NASDAQ and the S&P were also down.
Bush says tough action by Congress on corporate fraud should help soothe investors. He also expressed renewed confidence in treasury secretary Paul O’Neill. Bush says calls for O’Neill’s ouster are simply “what happens” in Washington.
