President Bush visited Illinois Monday to focus on his proposal for a Department of Homeland Security.

Bush became the first president in Argonne National Laboratory's 56-year history to visit. It's a place the president calls pivotal to our nation's security.

Bush urged lawmakers to make the homeland security department a reality. He said that Congress needs to give up some of its turf and recognize that American security is more important.

The homeland security bill would merge 22 federal agencies into a new cabinet-level agency. The legislation could go to the House floor for debate as early as this week.
