A Louisiana legislative auditor has found that Illinois schools superintendent Robert Schiller's previous employer overpaid $130,000 on a land deal he arranged, and the auditor says Schiller was awarded nearly $30,000 in "improper" payments.
Schiller was the superintendent of the cash-strapped Caddo Parish School System in Shreveport, Louisiana, before he became head of Illinois' schools in August 2002.
The allegations against Schiller in Louisiana were the subject of an October 24 report that recommended he and possibly other district officials be investigated for "malfeasance in office."
There hasn't been a criminal investigation, and Schiller says nothing illegal or incorrect was done.
