Six years in prison, that's the sentence handed down Tuesday to the woman convicted of killing a mother of four while driving under the influence of drugs.
Last July, Kristi Villaneuva took cocaine and four prescription drugs, Including sleeping pills, before getting in her car.
She then hit and killed Anita Martinez and seriously injured five others.
Today's sentencing was emotional for both Villaneuva and the Martinez family. They had hoped for a longer sentence.
"Even though they know that ten years, or however many years, is not going to bring their mother back, I still think that they would have hoped for something more as some sort of comfort to them," says Assistant State's Attorney Lise Lombardo.
Villanueva's attorney says she plans to file an appeal to reduce her client's sentence.
