Crop Hunger Walk in Rockford
It's much more than authors and artists slapped with the stigma of "starving." In fact, 23% of Rockford is considered living in poverty.

And because of that, hundreds of volunteers are trying to stomp out hunger. The 23rd Annual Rockford Crop Hunger walk stepped off at the Riverfront Museum Park. Organizers expect to raise about $40,000, about $10,000 or which will go to local hunger programs. The remaining money goes to Church World Services and other international relief agencies.
"The need has been particularly large this year, so the moneys we've raised will be a boost to their efforts, especially those smaller pantries among them," says David Jones.
41 congregations and organizations participated in the four-mile event. This is one of 110 to take place in Illinois.
