Illinois could be the first in the nation to help those with HIV get organ transplants. The Senate is looking at a bill that would allow a HIV patient to donate their organs to someone with the disease. It already passed in the House.
Rep. Larry McKeon is sponsoring the bill. He's HIV positive and says he'll probably donate a portion of his liver or kidney if the legislation passes.
Doctors say the bill could help prolong the lives of those living with HIV. They would free up the non-infected organs for other patients while still getting the attention they need.
