PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- The mother of a basketball player competing in the Class A boys state tournament says she found a racial slur written on her mirror in the hotel where the team stayed.
She was staying at the Hotel Pere Marquette in Peoria last weekend.
The team from Chicago's North Lawndale College Prep was the only team of the eight participating made up entirely of black players.
Ruth Wilson says she saw the writing on the mirror in her bathroom after a shower. She says the derogatory phrase contained the word "Negroes."
The hotel and the Illinois High School Association haven't determined whether Wilson's room was targeted specifically.
Hotel officials have issued a written apology and are investigating.
I-H-S-A spokesman Kurt Gibson says he's awaiting the results of the hotel's investigation.
