The elderly man involved in Thursday's traffic accident at Spring Creek and Alpine has died from his injuries.
The winnebago county coroner says 78-year-old James Hoyt of Rockford died just before midnight. He was struck by an out-of-control car while riding in a lifeline ambulance wheelchair van. It happened at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
The van's driver and a passenger in the car were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Hoyt's cause of death is expected to be released later today.
