A local man is recovering after he's rescued from the Rock River in Machesney Park. Harlem/Roscoe fire officials tell us the man was canoing by himself when his boat capsized.
It happened around 7:00 Friday night. Firefighter EMS responders were the first on scene. Nearby residents loaned them their private boats and helped locate the man and fish him out of the river, near Ventura Boulevard and Harbor Oaks Drive.
He was in the water about fifteen minutes but did have a life vest on. He's recovering at Rockford Memorial Hospital and fire officials believe his injuries are non-life threatening.
