The inspection of the Fordham Dam is now underway and the review could pave the way for a new whitewater rafting park in Rockford.
Engineers opened the floodgates earlier today allowing the river level to be lowered by several feet. Workers will now be able to examine the condition of the dam and report back to ComEd who owns the dam as well as the city of Rockford.
The inspection will shed a better light on whether a proposed whitewater rafting park is feasable.
