Lights Go Out in Several Stateline Schools

By  |

At least nine Stateline schools are left in the dark after heavy winds rip through the area causing power outages.

Students at Jefferson High School anxiously waited in the gymnasium for up to two hours before hearing the news that they’d be heading home. Buses finally arrived causing confusion as teachers tried to escort students on to the right buses, but several kids were still left out in the dark as they waited for parents to pick them up.

Elementary students from nearby New Milford were also sent home Friday due to a power outage and one East Side school, Luther Academy at Gloria Dei sent over 400 kids home after the school lost power, heat in several rooms and the use of their PA system.

Dennis Elementary, Whitehead, Flinn Middle School, Rock Valley College's Stenstrom Center and Kings School District in Ogle County also closed due to power losses.
