A second wild deer found near the border between Wisconsin and Illinois has tested positive for chronic wasting disease.
State wildlife officials said Thursday the deer was killed in a car crash in December in the Walworth County village of Fontana. It was sent to the DNR for sampling.
The agency found the first CWD-positive wild deer in the area last August. The second deer was killed about a mile from the first.
Chronic wasting disease attacks the brains of deer, causing them to grow thin and die.
