As 23 News brought you two weeks ago, the Rockford School Board is considering closing Rock River Elementary school.
Sources inside the school district tell 23 News that more than one school may have to close. Now, Jackson, Dennis and Stiles Elementary Schools names are being tossed around.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Ellen Bueschel has made several recommendations to the board on how to reduce a $30 million deficit. Cuts for 2004-2005 include closing Rock River and giving rift notices to over 100 employees, but more than one school may have to shut its doors for good.
There's been talk of turning Dennis Elementary into an early childhood school, or Dennis, Jackson and Stiles could close altogether. Stiles is under consideration due to low enrollment numbers.
