Lawmakers Make Room for Offbeat Issues Amid Light Agenda

By  |

State lawmakers have education and the budget on their minds this spring. Medical marijuana, educational trivia games and special license plates are on the agenda, too.

Legislators have floated dozens of ideas that deal with the more obscure or unusual aspects of life. A bill to legalize medical marijuana likely won't go anywhere, the bill's sponsor says.

Another measure would create an educational trivia game made up of questions submitted by schoolchildren and with the proceeds going to fund schools.

Other bills would outlaw lawsuits against fast-food restaurants for making people fat and creating Corvette license plates.

Lawmakers have filed more than 3,800 bills this spring, yet many will be passed over as legislators cut back the workload in an election year.
