Church members at a suburban Chicago church were greeted with protestors. It's all to put pressure on the Rockford Catholic Diocese to cooperate with law enforcement officials.
The protestors want Rockford's Bishop Thomas Doran to release church records of former Belvidere Priest Mark Campebello. Campobello is accused of sexually abusing two teenage girls while as a member of the church in Geneva, Illinois. Then there’s an accusation against Campobello from sexually abusing a girl in Saint Charles.
It’s St. Peter’s church in Geneva, Illinois where protestors handed out flyers to parishioners. Campebello goes on trial for these abuse charges in May, but the Rockford Diocese is refusing to release church records for what they may know about the alleged abuses. During the protest, several parishioners confronted the protestors and became hostile at times.
A federal appeals court may have decide if the Rockford Diocese will have to release the records they have on Campebello.
