A gunman keeps police at bay for more than seven hours Sunday morning in the Stephenson County Village of Davis. This small village is about 20 miles northwest of Rockford.

Police say they thought they would be responding to routine investigation of shots being fired, but when they arrived at 720 North Blackmore in Davis, they say they were threatened, to either leave or get shot. That threat started a tense seven-hour standoff.

Stephenson County police closed off two square blocks around Blackmore Street in Davis around 5 a.m. This is after responding to several calls of shots being fired near a house.

Police say an armed suspect apparently fired a shotgun at a vehicle during a fight with someone at a party. When police tried to interview the man at his house, he apparently told police he would shoot them if they didn't leave. Then the 22-year-old suspect starting counting down, that's when police backed off and a seven-hour standoff ensued.

Three people were inside the residence at the time of the standoff but were not considered hostages. No one was injured. Police are not saying if the shots were meant for somebody at the party or if the man was just blowing off steam. Neighbors in the area were told to stay in their homes as police waited for the man to come out.

The 22-year-old man finally surrendered to police after negotiators called in several relatives to talk the man out. He is now being held in the Stephenson County Jail without bail.

Stephenson County sheriff has released the name of the suspect, he is identified as 22-year-old Jonathon Lunde of Davis. He faces several charges including reckless conduct and criminal damage to property. If convicted he could face three years in prison. He is expected to be arraigned on these charges Monday.
