Gov. Rod Blagojevich says Illinois should keep its law banning same-sex marriages, but he also says Illinois law should protect gays from discrimination and state government should provide health benefits to the partners of gay employees.

The Massachusetts Supreme Court says that state must legalize gay marriages. Meanwhile, some Wisconsin lawmakers are trying to ban same-sex marriages there.

Blagojevich says he supports the status quo in Illinois, where the law says marriage is only valid between men and women.
