Illinois government has done such a poor job of tracking its property that the official record doesn't even list Abraham Lincoln's tomb.

That's the conclusion in a new report from the state auditor general Tuesday.

County records show the state owns nearly 28,000 parcels of land across Illinois. A sampling by Auditor General William Holland found that 28 percent were not listed in the state's master list.

The report also found the state does not make good use of the office space it owns. Auditors checked some cases where the state leased office space. Sixty-nine percent of the time, officials did not check whether there was any state-owned space available until after they had already rented space privately.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich is spending $25 million on a review to fix the situation.
