Illinois college students would be able to register to vote when they register for classes, under a bill being considered by lawmakers.
The measure would require all of Illinois' public colleges and universities to ask students if they want to register to vote when they sign up for classes.
The bill's sponsor, Representative Linda Chapa LaVia of Aurora says getting students to vote will give them more power to influence public policy.
But some university officials question the wisdom of the proposal. Dave Leonhard is a senior assistant registrar at Illinois State University, and he says implementing the program would be a logistical nightmare.
