Textron Jobs Move South

Company officials say most of the jobs from two closing Textron Fastening Systems plants will move to Mississippi. The fastener company closed two Rock River Valley plants last year and will close two more this year.

Textron plans to open a $35 million plant in Greenville, Mississippi. Spokesman Tim Weir says the company is moving in an effort to consolidate and to be closer to automakers in the south.

Textron once employed 3,000 people in the Rock River Valley. It will slash 1,030 local jobs when it closes two plants this year. An additional 350 people lost their jobs last year when two other plants closed.
