According to a copy of his testimony, Patrick Murphy blames the fire on Illinois politics. He says the building's management was not qualified to oversee the high rise.
He charges that the reason East Lake Management Company was given the contract to manage the building was because it's headed by Elzie Higginbottom, a major campaign contributor.
Higginbottom did not immediately return calls to The Associated Press for comment.
Three of the six people who died in the October fire worked in Murphy's office.
