A new report shows five of Illinois' six catholic dioceses are following recommendations from church leaders and outside investigators to prevent the sexual abuse of children by priests.
The archdiocese released the results of the audit Tuesday as part of a national report on child protection. Auditors interviewed church officials, priests, abuse victims and others for five days in July.
The archdiocese also recommended improvements such as background checks for all workers and written standards for clergy and others who deal with children.
The diocese of Peoria is the only one that has not complied with one of its audit's recommendations by a December 1 deadline.
