The attorney representing the man accused of placing pipe bombs in mailboxes in Illinois, Iowa and other states is asking for a delay in his client's first federal trial.

Luke Helder of Pine Island, Minnesota is accused of planting pipe bombs in 18 mailboxes in early May. Six of the bombs in eastern Iowa and western Illinois exploded, injuring four letter carriers and two Iowa women.

He is scheduled to stand trial Sept. 16ton federal charges filed in Iowa. But his attorney Jane Kelly has filed a motion asking for more time.

A federal grand jury in Illinois also has indicted Helder on charges related to the mailbox bombings.
