Police and postal authorities are coming down hard after recent bouts of mailbox vandalism.
Some vandals have been using the so-called MacGyver Bomb that explodes after several minutes when chemicals are mixed in a pop bottle. That can result in serious injury.
Some vandals have been videotaped destroying a mailbox and stealing the mail inside.
But regardless of the method used, police say there is harm in what they're doing.
Since mailboxes are considered federal property, crimes against them are considered a federal offense. Violators can be fined up to $10,000 and jailed for up to 10 years.
