The Illinois Republican Party is having a hard time finding someone to replace House Minority Leader Lee Daniels as party chairman.
The state GOP Central Committee named vice chairman Dallas Ingemunson of Yorkville today to serve as interim chairman.
The committee says it will give gubernatorial candidate Jim Ryan until July 26 to find a candidate to his liking to recommend for the chairmanship. Ingemunson says he does not want the job permanently.
Ryan already has had his offer turned down by former Governor Jim Edgar and former Quaker Oats chairman William Smithburg. And Monday, Ryan said he also talked to Congressman Ray LaHood of Peoria, who also turned down the job.
Daniels has resigned because of allegations that his legislative staff did campaign work on the taxpayers' dime in 2000.
