You can watch her every night in our studio, but now 23 News Reporter Alice Barr is moving to a new venue: The dance studio. She and Winnebago County State's Attorney Joe Bruscato are gearing up for a competition against other news anchors and their political partners.
The competition is part of the Burpee Museum's annual Bone Soiree fundraiser this Saturday night and since it's for a good cause, our moves have gotta be good!
A lot of work has led up to the event, maybe not blood and tears, but definitely sweat!
"Alice, I've been bugging her to get her body moving, so we put her in boot camp here to teach her how to move her body and to scare the competition a little bit," says Ken Norton, manager of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Rockford. He's describing the center's Core Rhythms dance workout.
Then it was time to get down to work with my partner, State's Attorney Joe Bruscato.
"The song that we're dancing to comes out of the movie the mask and I just have always loved that movie, I think it's fun and entertaining and energetic," says Bruscato.
But despite all our hard work, our competitors are killing us in the Rockford Register Star's online poll.
In fact State's Attorney Bruscato says, "I think we oughta look into that when all is said and done. Some law enforcement agencies might be interested in what's going on here."
In any case, we decide it's time to bring out the big guns. Bruscato tells his kids, "We gotta go door-to-door. Remember campaigning? Ready, get out there, get the votes!"
They knock on a door and ask the resident, "Hi, will you vote for our dad the Winnebago County State's Attorney and 23 News Reporter Alice Barr?"
The official count goes down at the fundraiser and all proceeds go to the museum. It runs from 6:00 to 11:00 Saturday night on the Burpee Lawn. You can grab your ticket for 90 dollars at www.burpee.org.
Below you'll find a link to the Register Star's website to vote for Barr and Bruscato.
