ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Hundreds of Rockford neighbors likely won’t forget to move their cars during the next snow storm. The city handed out more than 500 tickets to drivers parked on the wrong side of the street.
Some residential streets are still pretty messy today in part because they have private contractors charged with getting the snow off the roads had a hard time since there were just too many cars in the way.
That makes it harder for them to make a clean pass down the street. Video of Sunset Avenue showed cares parked on both sides of the street. This afternoon, we went back and noticed several cars hadn’t budged and that the messy streets are making it hard for drivers to get around.
We checked in with one private contractor who says it takes more time to clear his route when people are parked in the road.
“It is harder because you don’t want to hit the car and you want to do a nice job, so you have to drive around. If you have 2 cars it makes it even harder and your job doesn’t look real nice, so it’s a lot easier when the road is clear.
Those contractors were out for 12 hours clearing the streets. The city’s snow emergency has been lifted, so the odd/even parking rules are no longer in effect. That ticket is $50.
The Department of Public Works says drivers will still be around, so if you’re still concerned abut the conditions on your street, you can call the city’s snow hotline at 815-987-5771.
