Garbage Handlers Talk With Federal Mediator

By  |

As garbage mounds grow higher throughout the Chicago area, a federal mediator joined negotiations in the strike by northern Illinois garbage handlers.

All the players involved hope the addition from the federal mediation conciliation service will help get he talks back on track.

More than 3,300 teamsters who haul garbage for Chicago-area large buildings rejected a contract offered Sunday. Their contract ended Sept. 30.

The strike has generated trash bins that are overflowing, attracting rodents and bugs. Many are double and triple bagging the waste, but it does very little to help.
