Shopping for the Arts

We're in the final week of the holiday shopping season and several downtown Rockford shops and restaurants are helping ease the tension for those last minute shoppers.
It's the most wonderful time of the year, but at times it can also be the most stressful. That's why eight downtown businesses have teamed up to present "5 nights of christmas: Shopping for the arts."
They just kicked off the shopping and dining event tonight.
It's meant to make holiday shopping fun and entertaining.
But wait, there's more, it's also a fundraiser for the local arts organizations: the Rockford Art Museum, Rockford Dance Company, Friends of the Coronado and the Rockford Symphony Orchestra.
The businesses involved are offering special items or gift certificates with a portion of the proceeds benefitting those organizations.
Participating merchants include Brio, J.R. Kortman Center for Design, Krypto Lounge, Octane, Paragon, Chocolat by Daniel, Fusion Studios and Runner's Image.
There are special events scheduled for every night.
Tuesday night it's a the Music Academy at Rockford College will perform in the Kortman Gallery at 107 N. Main Street and Chocolat by Daniel at 211 E. State St.
The Kortman Gallery Bar is open all week and will host a book signing Wednesday night featuring Rockford author John Lundin's latest book.
Thursday night the Kortman Gallery hosts the premier of the latest work from a Rockford composer, pianist and videographer.
Finally Friday night, Holland Zander, John Bishoff and Jinger Christal will sing their latest CD upstairs at the Kortman Gallery.
The event is going on all week from 5 to 10 PM. For more information call 815-968-0123.
