This is video of 62-year-old Carol McFeggan from a live interview 23 news did with her back in 2008.
Rockford Police found her body Monday morning inside her home along Wedel Avenue on the city's Northwest Side. Police say she was shot to death.
They've since put out an arrest warrant on first degree murder charges for her husband, 65-year-old Thomas F. McFeggan.
He was last seen driving a 2002 white, two-door Chevy Cavalier.
The license plate number is 2-6-9-5-5-0-2. Authorities consider him armed and have information that he may try to hurt himself.
Carol McFeggan was known by many local survivors of homicides as the driving force behind a support group helping families who've lost loved ones to murders.
23 News talked with one member about how she's remembering their leader.
"How could her destiny end the way she fought to help others? I just can't comprehend it," Gerri Flynn said.
Disbelief for Gerri Flynn over the sudden loss of Carol McFeggan.
Flynn met her five years ago when she lost her son Eric to a homicide and sought comfort in this homicide survivors support group.
"I remember going to the first meeting. She immediately walked up to me and just gave me this warm embrace as if we'd known each other for years," Flynn said.
McFeggan co-founded the organization after her brother died from a vehicular homicide.
23 News talked with her during this live interview in 2008 before the group's annual memorial ceremony.
"We need people to talk to and the people in our group can understand what's happened in the violence of the death," McFaggen said at the time.
A special connection cherished by members like Flynn.
"She would follow up with people and call them," Flynn said.
She credits McFeggan for getting through her own loss.
"I don't know if I'd be as far without a person like Carol or that group," Flynn said.
Flynn called her a gentle soul who won't be forgotten.
"I just think there's a special place in heaven for her. The angels have welcomed her with open arms," Flynn said.
Flynn says this loss actually comes on the heels of another death in their support group.
About two months ago, they lost Reverend Bill Kerr of Riverside Community Church in Machesney Park where the group meets every month.
Kerr apparently died of a heart attack and had facilitated their meetings.
McFeggan was also the receptionist at Auburn High School.
In statement released by the District 205, they said students and staff will gather at 9 a.m. Tuesday in support to remember McFeggan and what she meant to everyone.
We're also told school counselors and psychologists will be on hand.
