LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- As the holiday party season gets under way, local police agencies are mounting a special watch for drunken drivers along Illinois Route 21 from Waukegan to Buffalo Grove.
Special patrols looking for intoxicated drivers on Route 21 through Lake and Cook counties began this weekend and will continue through New Year's.
Libertyville Police Chief Ron Fry says Route 21 is a direct line from Milwaukee to Chicago, and it's the back route, so it gets heavily traveled over the holidays.
Lake County police participating in the Route 21 enforcement details include the Buffalo Grove, Vernon Hills, Libertyville, Gurnee, Riverwoods and Lincolnshire police departments and the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
