Cherry Valley fire fighters tell us they're doing a final count on the injured, after Friday night's fatal train derailment. Right now they believe between six and nine people were hurt.
One Rockford woman died of her injuries. The coroner's office has identified the victim as 41-year-old Zoila Tellez.
According to Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia, the victim was in a car waiting for the train to pass a crossing when the train derailed.
"She was a passenger in the car and she got out of the car in an attempt to run and she was probably about 20 feet behind the car when she went down," says Coroner Fiduccia.
Rockford firefighters say three other people were in the car with Tellez and were able to run away, but were severely burned by the flaming ethanol.
The injured were taken to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in serious to critical condition. One victim was transferred to Stroger Hospital in Chicago. The train's two crewmen escaped unharmed.
