my mother was right in front of that line and thankfully okay. My prayers go out to those that were hurt.

We were on Hwy 20 going to Pecatonica last night around 9:30 and you could see the sky was red to the east from the fire.

I understand there might not be too much new on the story, but my family was evacuated so we went to my parents house in the Valley View subdivisions. I'm staying up because the fire department came by 2 hours ago recommending we leave but it's not mandatory. It would be nice to see this on TV instead of the junk that's on right now.

Not sure if it would cause the train to derail but around 7pm when we drove over those railroad tracks heading south the whole area there was flooded!

I was the 10th car back on this. I couldnt believe it. It happened almost in slow motion. I was watching the train and thinking, "that doesnt look right" then one of the cars visibly ran off the tracks and you could see trees moving from where the cars where hitting them and them a huge fireball, twice as high as the trees erupted. There was only one burn victim that I know of, one of the young men in the first car got a little burn on his arm about the size of a dollar from where something landed on him. But everyone got out of their cars safely.

The smell of partially unburned ethanol is growing stronger 3 1/2 miles north. The sky to the south is dusty orange at 11:35 PM.

This train left Freeport around 7:30pm. It was a Candian National train headed for Chicago.

I was one of the first spectators on the scene. I was in Deer Run Forest preserve in cherry valley when i saw the explosion. I immediately got in my car along with 2 other witnesses and drove west on harrison to a neighborhood and followed a police vehicle that had just arrived before and fire trucks. from what i saw there were several cars along the road near the train tracks that had been abandoned. About 5 were engulfed in flames. I also saw parts of the train strewn about in the nearby area that were burning. was then instructed by a police officer to leave immediately. as i left the road was blocked off by several police cars and fire trucks that were just arriving. I relocated to yard that was directly perpendicular to the accident. I stayed at this location for about an hour, some 250 feet from the flames. As i was leaving, residents were being instructed to leave the area within a half mile radius. For pictures and videos contact me at kjmowell@aol.com
