Gov. Ryan announces grant money awards to keep kids from smoking.
The Illinois Liquor Control Commission is awarding $1 million in grants to communities for the Kids Can’t Buy Em’ Here program. The grants will be given to 250-communities throughout the state.
The purpose of the tobacco enforcement effort is to enforce minimum-age tobacco laws.
Ryan says the money will be used to educate youth about the hazards of smoking. The governor added since the increased cigarette tax more people have ended their smoking addiction.
