Right now police are investigating how a ten month old boy suffered severe head injuries this afternoon.
The toddler was rushed to Rockford Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery late this afternoon.
He was brought to R.M.H. from a home that doubles as a licensed day care center on Clinton Street. That's in Rockford's Edgewater neighborhood.
There were four children, including the injured boy, and at least one day care provider at the center when the ambulance arrived.
Police cannot confirm whether the injury happened inside the building. They also will not say if they consider the case an accident or child abuse.
Police tell me it's too early in the investigation to release details. But they say the baby's parents are distraught.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the case along with Rockford Police. Police say that's standard procedure whenever a child is injured.
